Martial Arts
By Ruby Pauly
Foot Hand Art is how it’s known,
To prepare yourself when you’re alone,
It can happen anywhere, night or day,
Be sure to keep the bad men away.
Your belt is tied, stretches done,
This will not save you from a gun,
Kick the bag, not your friends,
Never mind the fashion trends.
And though at times we do seem addled,
Probably from those whom we’ve battled,
We of Martial Arts keep on,
And never once do we show brawn.
Punch the bag, no, not me,
Stand back now, let me lead.
Ki-hap when I tell you to,
This is not the time to snooze.
Bloody noses, yes, there’s some,
Casually inflicted from mother to son,
Do not fight me, you will not win,
For I will kick you in the shin.
Slide, don’t step,
We aren’t there yet,
Block correctly, in the right stance,
No, we do not have a lance.
Punch up high, legs are parted,
Owch, I’m sure that smarted,
Maybe you’ll remember now,
It is always right for you to bow.
Using this can kill in mass,
Would you please stop passing gas?
What? No, we do not pinch,
My patience to you is within an inch.
Be careful to not incur my wrath,
8th gup vs. 5th Dan, you do the math.
And though I’m sure it would be a laugh,
I will not tolerate any sass.
This Art is hard, that I know,
You may go home with an injured bone,
But I meet new people all the time,
For that, it is worth it, Martial Arts is mine
